Knowledge Exam Data Analyses
The PERT staff used a multiple-choice examination to assess the knowledge of PERT class participants regarding end-of-life care. The exam contained questions covering all major areas of end-of-life care. There were separate versions of the exam for nursing assistants and licensed staff. Participants completed the exam both prior to and after completing the PERT classes.
The exams were created according to established criteria for test construction. PERT faculty and staff matched the questions with class objectives, thereby making sure that the exams reflected the program content.
The exams were scored by the percentage of questions answered correctly. The tables below compare the mean (average) scores of participants before and after attending the PERT classes. There were significant increases in scores for both the licensed staff and nursing assistants. On average, the gains for the nursing assistants were greater than for the licensed staff.
