Self Evaluation Data Analyses
Before the first PERT class and six months following the final PERT class, participants completed a 13-item (licensed staff) or 14-item (nursing assistants) self evaluation questionnaire. Using this tool, participants rated their effectiveness in providing end-of-life care. The questions were developed to match PERT Program learning objectives.
Each question on the form was assessed using a “0” (not at all effective) to “10” (very effective) scale. Summary scores were created by calculating the mean of all the items. Participants' mean scores were ranked from 0–10, with higher scores showing greater confidence in one's skills.
The tables below compare the mean scores of participants before and after attending the PERT classes. Significant improvement from pre-program to post-program self evaluation scores were obtained for both licensed staff and nursing assistants.
