PRENATAL
CYSTIC FIBROSIS SCREENING ONLINE CME COURSE
JOINTLY SPONSORED BY SWEDISH MEDICAL CENTER AND THE
MARCH OF DIMES
Course Description:
This course is designed to enhance the
understanding of prenatal cystic fibrosis screening protocol amongst
health care professionals and to effectively identify at-risk patient
populations. In Oct. of 2001, the ACOG and the ACMG released clinical and
laboratory guidelines for "Preconception and Prenatal Carrier
Screening for Cystic Fibrosis." We will introduce the new guidelines.
We expect learners to develop
familiarization with the guidelines and the recommendation for who should
be offered prenatal CF screening.
Course
Objectives:
At the conclusion of
this presentation, the participant will be able to:
- Identify ACOG/ACMG guidelines for cystic fibrosis
screening
- Identify the risk for CF in different ethnic groups
- Identify 2 risk factors for cystic fibrosis carriers
- Describe two ways of improving the management of
cystic fibrosis screening protocol
