Surgical Residency Program

Surgery at SMC

The Swedish Medical Center General Surgery Residency Training Program, based on the medical center’s First Hill campus near downtown Seattle, Washington, was established in 1959. The program is dedicated to quality surgical education in a private hospital setting, emphasizing a close collegial relationship between attending surgeon and resident. The program offers broad clinical experience in the diverse areas of general surgery as well as wide exposure to multiple surgical subspecialties. There is ample opportunity for academic enrichment and inquiry.

The Surgical Residency Training program was last reviewed by the residency review Committee for General Surgery of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical education in 2005. The program was awarded continued full, five-year accreditation at the time and will next be reviewed in 2010.
